In January 2018 South Coast Air Quality Management District (SC-AQMD) partner and University of Southern California (USC) consultant Solomon Teffera and Meskir Tesfaye, Research Administrator from the Addis Ababa University (AAU) GEOHealth Hub team conducted a one-week exposure monitoring training workshop in Kampala, Uganda. The workshop focused on training the research team at Makerere University on the installation, use and maintenance of the air pollution monitoring equipment being used in the Eastern Africa Children’s Health and Time-Series Morbidity/Mortality studies as part of the Eastern Africa GEOHealth Hub. Meskir Tesfaye provided valuable insights into challenges faced during air monitoring efforts in Addis Ababa. Key outcomes of the workshop included training of the Makerere University team in the use and maintenance of samplers, installation of samplers at study sites as well as training in quality assurance and quality control procedures.
