Dr Samson O. Mabwoga is currently a lecturer at the Department of Environment, Forests and Agriculture in the School of Tourism and Natural Resources Management, Maasai Mara University, Narok. He completed his Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences (Remote Sensing) from Guru Nanak Dev University in India, holds a M.Sc. (Honors) in Environmental Sciences and B.Sc. in Botany from the same university. He was awarded Research Fellowship in Science and Humanities, awarded to Foreign Students from Developing Countries for Doctoral research work by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, Government of India from 2009 – 2013. In addition he holds Post-Graduate Diploma in Computer and French. Mabwoga has research and practical experience in remote sensing (RS) techniques such as image processing and analysis, knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and GIS software such as ArcGIS, Surfer and IDRISI, practical knowledge in handling Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and applications on field surveys and sampling, strong background in field and laboratory methods on sampling and analysis of water, soil and vegetation He possesses computer skills – applications related to MS Office, Internet, Windows OS, has practical knowledge in programming skills (C++, C and FORTRAN 7, knowledge of HTML and JavaScript). He has published three peer reviewed articles, attended and participated in more than 12 conferences and workshops – national and international. He is also a reviewer of the following journals – [Applied Remote Sensing, Ecological Engineering (Elsevier), Ecological Indicators (Elsevier), Environmental Monitoring and Assessment (Springer), Remote Sensing of Environment (Elsevier)] and a Member, Curriculum Review Board and Examination Coordinator (Department of Environment, Forests and Agriculture in the School of Tourism and Natural Resources Management, Maasai Mara University). Mabwoga has also taught several courses to undergraduate and postgraduate students at Maasai Mara, Kisii and Mount Kenya universities. His research interests include: Remote Sensing and GIS Applications in Ecology, Air and Water Pollution, Wetland Ecology, Environmental Planning and Resource Management, , Water and Waste Water Engineering, Land use/Land cover Mapping, Advances in Digital Image Classification, Environmental Impact Assessment.
