Dr. Etienne RUGIGANA joined the University Of Rwanda School Of Public Health in 2006 as a lecturer and is handling courses in Public Health Surveillance, Epidemiology, Health Management Information Systems, Disasters Management and Monitoring and Evaluation for HIV/AIDS interventions. He holds two Master degrees: in Public Health and in Epidemiology from Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium. Dr. Etienne holds 5 years experience as a pediatrics medical officer and as a district medical officer; and has been involved in the training of nurses and midwives. He also has field experience with a humanitarian NGO in clinical and public health activities in Southern Sudan and Somalia. He has been involved in many operational studies and evaluations targeting HIV/AIDS in Rwanda since 2006. At regional level (East Africa), he is the Rwanda team leader of Public Health Emergencies Management Program (HEMP) through the HEALTH ALLIANCE and is also the project manager and mentor for the WHO master’s degree in Health Workforce Development, a degree offered through a consortium composed by University of Western Cape, University Eduardo Mondlane, Addis Ababa University and National University of Rwanda. Dr. Etienne is also the university’s focal person for One Health Central and Eastern Africa (OHCEA) Initiative, composed by all schools of public health and all faculties of veterinary medicine from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, DRC and Ethiopia. He currently is the Head of the Epidemiology and Biostatistics department, University of Rwanda; College of Medicine and Health Sciences; School of Public Health.
